December 2012 Presidents Report
December, time for a brief reflection on 2012!
Another year has passed us by, an important growth year for our Club, the host of the Mustang Nationals last Easter. It took the combined effort of many members to bring dozens of ideas together resulting in a very successful event. Once it was successfully over, we were then able to breathe a collective sigh of relief and then give something back to the people of Newcastle who had flocked to our car show in their thousands. This gift took the form of a cash donation to the Children's Oncology Unit within the massive John Hunter Hospital complex.
After seeing the how many Mustangs owners there are in the Greater Hunter Region, I recommitted myself to formalizing the long discussed Newcastle /Central Coast Chapter of the Club getting it up and running in 2013. For those of you north of the Hawkesbury River, please note that the first meeting of our new Chapter will take place on Sunday 3rd February. The venue will be at Jeanette and my home in Gwandalan at 10am. We will start with brunch. Bring your eggs and bacon along. I will have the BBQ all fired up ready for action, then we'll have a semi-formal meeting. It would be great to see some of the long term members from the area along- Daffos, Tillmans, Broadbents, Stan B etc….
In the November President's Report, I encouraged you to plan to attend the 2013 Mustang Show in Canberra on Sunday, 24th February. Join us on the convoy leaving Uncle Leo's on Saturday and make a weekend of it. Our Canberra friends have a small cruising activity in mind for us on Saturday afternoon, and we will be booking a restaurant near to our accommodation venue, Rydges on Capital Hill. The phone number to book at Rydges is 62953144. Mention that you are a Mustang Owners Club Member and the rate including underground parking is $171.00.
I would sincerely like to thank you all for supporting your Club at many events and Club activities throughout the year. I was delighted to learn recently that a new member couple have contacted the Event Team and offered to organize a run to the Blue Mountains. Excellent! Please assist our events people by suggesting an idea or organizing an outing for the Club. Licence Captain Peter Cooke has put his hand up and will be organizing mid-week runs for us retirees in 2013.
Remember, too, that if you are up for a big Mustang drive, you are welcome to join the small group of us who will be leaving Sydney for Wagga Wagga on the morning of the 22nd March enroute to Perth and the Mustang Nationals 2014.
I am now down to my final weeks at Villeroy & Boch prior to retirement. Paul and Jan Davidson have decided too, that it is time to retire, they both finish work at the end of November. Best wishes to you both for an enjoyable and healthy future!
I was surprised and delighted to open the November Pony Express envelope and to see our 1966 convertible on the cover, 'thank you Editor Peter!' Who knows whose Mustang will be featured in the next edition?
Welcome to all of our new members. We all recall the joy of realizing our dream and actually purchasing then getting to drive our Mustang. This month I am delighted to see founding members, Sue and Paul Savona have now rejoined the Club with their newly acquired 1972 convertible. Many will recall Paul's mighty 429 Fastback, which I imagine is still terrorizing the streets of Malta. The committee and members will look forward to meeting you at various Club activities.
I will look forward to seeing you at our last Club meeting of the year on Wednesday 12th December. It will be our Annual Auction, so contribute and participate generously please!
Jeanette joins me in wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year!
