Presidents Report May 2013
The year is rapidly passing and it seems like only yesterday since I was sitting in a motel in Ceduna SA, finishing off the April President’s Report! Three days after that, the Cobra was back in our garage, having covered almost 9,500 km on its coast to coast adventure. What a fantastic adventure it was - all three couples from NSW that participated in this great Aussie road trip enjoyed each and every kilometre! Will we do it again? Yes, we probably will - in another 5 years.
The August AGM is high on my agenda for topics of discussion in this Report. Acting Editor, Phil will be publishing a list of Committee positions - all of these positions, with the exception of the two National delegates are open for Nomination. Please give it your consideration. With my second three year term as President expiring in August, the job is available, and fortunately for the Club, there will be at least two Members who will be putting their names forward for this job. I intend to nominate for the Vice President position. Treasurer Phil, Secretary Pam, and Licence Captain Peter, have all indicated they are willing to stand again for Office. Thank you all, folks, for making the Club a priority and giving it your focus for at least another year. The Events Co-Ordinators’ position requires new volunteers. John Chapman’s career now has him living in Coffs Harbour, while Doreen, ably assisted by Lyn and Bruce, has continued to valiantly battle onward. The Team have decided it is time for them to call it a day! We are still to hear from Editor Peter Dunlop, who is travelling around Australia, as to whether he will be in a position to stand again, and at this time the Committee is confident that a Member couple will be stepping up to take charge of the Club’s merchandise in the coming weeks. Once again, special thanks to Keith Speer (and his off-sider, Mario) who both did an exceptional job looking after the Club Merchandise, continuing to sell product at every opportunity right up until the Vineyard Hotel event on the 21st April, long after announcing their retirement last August.
The Members who attended the Vineyard Hotel Round up on the 21st April to celebrate the 49th Birthday of our iconic cars, enjoyed an excellent day. Earlier, the weather gods kept us nervous as the rain poured from the skies all of the previous day. Sunday, however turned out to be a beautiful day thanks to David Livian spending the night in prayer! Thanks once again to the hotel manager, Dane Walker and his staff for making the big effort that made the day a success, and of course thank you to all of the Members who turned up - from the Central Coast to Crookwell, with their Mustangs in support of the Club! Dane walked around and made his Host Choice selections, choosing the following vehicles from the various models on display:-
- 1964 . to 1966 ¡V Red / gold fastback owned by Penny and Gary Treloar
- 1967 to 1968 - Orange fastback owned by Sharon and Eddie Hadley
- 1969 to 1970 - Blue Boss 302 owned by David Gale.
- 1971 to 1986 - Red Sportsroof owned by Leannne and Mark Smith.
- 1987 to 2013 - Black GT 500 owned by Paul Carthew.
Congratulations to you all!
At the April Meeting - held downstairs in the RSL while finishing work was being completed upstairs, we had a special husband and wife guests, Allana and Michael Burke. Their two year old Son, Cameron passed away a couple of years ago, and these brave folks subsequently organised a charity event with hot rods, collectable cars and bikes, in memory of Cameron, at Springwood last year. The Burke’s efforts resulted in them being in a position to make a donation of $10,000 to the Newborn & Paediatric Emergency Transport Service in Loving Memory of Cameron. This year, the event will be bigger and better with a goal to raise $20,000 for the same worthy cause. It will be held on Sunday, 9th June and is listed in the Events Calendar. I hope some of you are able to attend and support these exceptional people.
Our Newcastle Co-ordinator, David Lodge, accepted the Committee’s challenge to find a place where we could have a Christmas in July. Within a matter of days, David was emailing me details of a great location - Salamander Shores Resort in Port Stephens and subsequently the date was confirmed as Saturday night the 6th July. Jeanette and I took a drive up to the area to check it out for ourselves. It was a magnificent day and the entire Port Stephens area was looking at its best. The resort itself has been there for a long time under various operators and names - we had stayed there about 30 years ago. The reception staff were most helpful and we were able to visit the Dolphin Room, where our function will take place. Remember that there is only room for a maximum of 100 dinner guests, so please book immediately.
If you are a Newcastle or Central Coast resident, remember that we gather for casual meal followed by a Meeting every second Wednesday of the month at Wests in Newcastle or alternatively at Diggers in The Entrance. The April Meeting is at Wests and the May Meeting is at Diggers.
Today (Sunday) we have been to the American Muscle Car Day at The Entrance. It was a perfect Autumn day, and by 10AM, the park was at its capacity with 150 magnificent vehicles on display. My special thanks to Norm Moore and Rob Taylor who did the hard work behind the scenes for the past months and ensured that the event ran like clockwork. Norm in the past has had his share of wet day events, but this time he struck the weather jackpot!
Welcome to all of our new Members. Take every opportunity to use and enjoy your Mustang - they are all classics. The MOCA (NSW) Inc is a large club - over 600 members. Many of those members have been part of the Club for over 20 years. Please introduce yourself to a Committee Member at an event or at the Monthly Meeting so as we can personally make you welcome and then introduce you to your fellow members.
