September 2014 Presidents Report
It’s been a big month with much happening in the club.
We farewelled a dear friend of the club; David Francis. Thank you to all who attended the service. It was a fitting send off with many members bringing their Mustangs and/or wearing their club regalia.
As expected it was a huge turnout and Jeanette and the family are extremely appreciative of the love and support from all in attendance, including representation from interstate Mustang Clubs by Tony and Trish Kilvington (SA) , Kym Turner (National President) and Russell and Sandra Whitney (President) from Queensland.
The President’s Choice trophy for the Merrylands Muster on September 21 is now the David Francis Memorial Trophy as this was one of his favourite events.
We will also commemorate his contribution to the club with a trophy at the All American Day and the new committee will discuss donations to appropriate charities on behalf of David and Jeanette.
At the last general meeting I had the honour of presenting members with their 20 year badge which is excellent achievement, as well as receiving on behalf of the club a certificate of appreciation for our donation to the Glenvale School for special needs children. The funds for this were raised at the American Muscle Car Show at The Entrance run by Norm Moore and David Hogg with assistance from local members. MOCA NSW added to the proceeds from the show.
This was followed by our AGM and election and it was an exciting one.
Thank you to Lance, Sean and Ron for their nominations for committee, and to Steve Jackman and Pam Cooke respectively for chairing and minuting the AGM; and to Dick Israel performing as Returning Officer.
I always welcome new blood on the committee as long as they have the best interests of the membership as a whole at heart and are prepared to commit to the club.
I can’t remember the last time we had so many nominations for positions but on the night the members made their preferences clear and we have an excellent mix of experienced and new committee members continuing the positive direction of the club.
I greatly appreciate the huge support from the members to allow me to head an enthusiastic committee for this great club and I welcome Keith Quiney, Matt Jones, Ben Gambrill and David Hogg; and welcome back Malcolm McEwen (who I look forward to seeing in his secretary’s skirt!) and of course Alan Vella stepping up to the Vice Presidents position to join stalwarts Eddie Hadley, Phil Preston, David Lodge and Kerry Myers.
I have had fabulous reports from the trip to Ford HQ in Melbourne and regret that events conspired against me to prohibit me from attending.
A combination of the Queen concert (the music group, not Royalty), 2 school functions and Luke’s first regional athletics comp, plus baseball tryouts for his new club made it very hard to leave Sydney but I thank Alan Vella for his tireless efforts in making this trip so memorable based on the great reports, and for reinforcing our relationship with Ford Australia.
In our near future we have the Merrylands Muster, Lugarno Spring Festival, Big Al’s Mystery Run and various Traffic Dodger and Cars “n” Coffee runs, so there is plenty excuses to take your pony out of the stable.
I welcome all the new members and look forward to meeting you at one of the many runs and, enjoy those Mustangs.
Enjoy those Mustangs.
