The
history of the Mustang Owners Club (NSW) has been simple, fairly
unspectacular, some would even say reserved, based on a "get
on with business" attitude in building a big, strong and
friendly club. Like most other clubs, this didn't come easily.
The club's inaugural outing was a run attended by 30 families
on Sunday 12th November 1978, all of whom became the basis of
our first membership. The club then became a member of the Combined
Ford Club (C.F.C) in December 1978, which led to the Mustang's
first appearance at the 3rd annual All Ford Day held at Greens
Motorcade in July 1979. By 1980 our membership had grown to
65, this year was also the last All Ford Day attended by the
club, for some time, due to a lack of interest. This lack of
interest also brought about the demise of the club in 1981.
The Club then reformed in mid 1981 and gained the "Official
Seal" in December of that year. The inauguration celebration
was on 7 February 1982 and in that same year; the club also
became a state branch member of the Mustang Owners Club of Australia
Inc. (MOCA).1984 marked the return of the club to All Ford Day,
which had now moved to Peter Warren Ford Liverpool - 45 Mustangs
were on display that year. We still maintain a presence at All
Ford Day each year with a display of 60 Mustangs.
Our Club has been growing steadily over the years, with now
around 450 plus members, and recognised as the largest club
under the Australian banner of MOCA. We are also bigger than
a lot of the Mustang clubs in the USA.
We
in NSW, cater equally for all types, derivatives and year models
of Mustangs may it be Original, Modified, Show or Daily
Driver. Our member's cars range from the very earliest model
- 1964 1/2 - to 2001 including the first 1999 model converted
to RHD in Australia. We are driven by a number of goals being
the preservation and restoration of the marque; enjoying and
promoting the Mustang; being in the company of other Mustang
owners not only from our state, but also other states of Australia.
We often welcome and encourage overseas visitors to join us
at our meetings or any of our runs. We enjoy fund raising for
many charities, including the Westmead Children's Hospital,
to which we have donated over $30,000. We have also donated
sizeable amounts to other worthy charities.
We
have a minimum of one club run each month may it be Car Show,
Display, Concours, Fun Cruises, weekends away or Judges Training
Days etc we have got it covered. We also have a big national
event known as the National Concours each Easter weekend. Each
state has a turn at being "host state" for the National
Concours every 5 years.
Our
monthly club meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the
month at Merrylands RSL at 8pm. We are affiliated with the RSL
and this, in itself, is an Australian first. The RSL Club offers
us somewhere permanent to hold our meetings and social events
along with the opportunity of using all the RSL facilities.
We are included in community projects that the RSL is involved
in.
