Presidents Report July 2012

As I write this report, I am hours away from heading off to Europe, leaving the Club in the hands of a capable and experienced Committee. However, a few words about the last few weeks.

Phil Preston and I recently made a visit to the Oncology Unit at the John Hunter, Newcastle Children's Hospital. On behalf of the members we presented the Unit Director, Dr Frank Alvaro with a Club cheque for $3,000.

We were able to explain to the doctor, in front of a NBN News camera, that this cheque was a thank you, from us, to the people of Newcastle for the co-operation, help and support that we were given with the running of the Mustang Nationals last Easter. The help from people such as Drew Ferguson-Tait from the Council, who gave us the Foreshore Park free of charge, Craig Welsh (now a Member) from Kloster Group, for the use of their magnificent facility, and of course from the management team at Wests, for who nothing was a problem. Thanks to these people, we made a profit, and it was a pleasure to return some of this profit to a worthy local cause. Don Glover, a Central Coast member is a senior executive in NBN, he organized the news team. Thanks Don!

While my mind is in the Newcastle region, one of our newer members, David Lodge organized a run to the Hunter Gardens on Sunday, the 24th June. This will go down in history as the first outing of the future Newcastle/ Central coast Chapter of the Club. Colin and Kym Broadbent were there in the Shelby and when we rolled up there were six Mustangs sitting in the parking area. Although it was a magnificent winter's day, a cold wind chill kept us moving around looking for a spot in the sun to stand and chat. It was great to get to meet with a new group of enthusiastic Mustang folk- thanks David for taking this initiative and we will all look forward to lots more opportunities to get the Mustangs out of the garages!

Wayne Byrne and the boys from Hills Mustang are busily organizing a sensational display to showcase our club at Motorex. It is a huge effort on behalf of everyone participating and I wish you all luck over the weekend.

I will be back in time for the AGM, for Muscle Car Masters, Shannons Eastern Creek, and of course for our annual Mustang Round up and the Club's 30th Birthday at Merrylands. Welcome to all of our new members. We all recall the joy of realizing our dream and actually purchasing then getting to drive our Mustang. The committee and members will look forward to meeting you at various club activities.
